Food Preservation

Adult / Adult Enrichment -
Summer 2026

Learn how to safely preserve fresh foods and reduce waste. In this class, participants will explore several popular preservation methods including freezing, dehydration, refrigerator pickling, and basic water-bath canning. We’ll discuss food safety, proper storage techniques, pressure canning, and the equipment needed to get started at home.

Whether you grow your own produce, shop at farmers markets, or simply want to save money and enjoy seasonal foods year-round, this class will give you the confidence and skills to begin preserving foods safely.

Participants will receive recipes, preservation guidelines, and tips for getting started with simple projects at home. No prior experience is required.

Carol Larson

Instructor

Carol’s interest in food preservation and particularly canning is nearly as old as she is. She started canning on her grandmother‘s farm. It was a way of preserving the garden, making jams and jellies and sauces to add to the meals. On the farm, it was also a way to have food security in case of power outages or sustained storms.
