Love soccer? Come learn the game through pick-up play, where you'll get lots of game time and build valuable skills like teamwork, communication, and self-refereeing.
What to expect: Minimal instruction, maximum play. With coach guidance, kids gradually learn to organize games, make calls, and keep things fun and fair for everyone. Through gameplay, they'll experience building balanced teams, self-refereeing, playing safely, and inclusive play.
Best for: Kids who love soccer and are ready to help make the experience great for everyone.
Kids should wear shin guards with long socks over them. Soccer cleats are encouraged but not required. Bring water for brief breaks in the action. We'll use scrimmage vests (pinnies) to visually separate teams.
A soccer coach since 2006, Grant has coached his own kids—three now grown, two still in school—and is the Director of Coaching for the St. Anthony Boosters Soccer program. He designed these pick-up sessions to give kids what many are looking for: more game time, lower cost, and the chance to learn how to start and maintain informal games with their friends.
